4 out of 5 stars Good camera for the price   May 11, 2010
Legally Blonde (Chicago, IL)
Another vote for this being a good camera for the price. It has a bit of a lag time between when you press the button and the shutter opens and closes so this resulted in many blurry photos early-on. Now that we have more of the hang of it, our photos have improved. The flash isn't particularly strong so photos tend to be quite blue/a bit dark underwater. That said, it is a definite step up from disposable underwater cameras, and for the affordable price, I don't know that I would expect much more. Would recommend as a solid underwater camera for recreational use, but if you're looking for a more professional-grade camera this is not it.

5 out of 5 stars Very Pleased!   April 29, 2010
Wish '73 (VA)
Purchased this camera in the Fall of 2008 for our 25th Anniversary cruised to Tahiti. I tried a smaller, more expensive camera (don't remember the name - it was a little yellow box) at home taking regular pics and they were horrible. Purchased this online, tested the picture quality and ease of use prior to the trip and felt confident it would take good pics. I was not disappointed. During the cruise, we snorkled at each port and I took hundreds of pictures underwater - even some on land. Some didn't come out, but hey, that happens when I'm taking pics on land with Lumix FZ7.
I'm writing this review cuz I just printed 8.5 x 11 prints of several of my underwater shots for a photo show - the quality of the colors and resolution was incredible!
For around $100 (what I paid, incl shipping), can't go wrong.
My only complaint is that the casing scuffs easily, and I wish the part through which the lens shoots would be recessed a little for protection.
Small investment - huge dividends in terms of memories we'll cherish!

5 out of 5 stars great camera for everyday use not just for underwater   July 12, 2009

I have now had this camera for more than six months - so it is time to write my review. First, I was very surprised to see what this camera now is selling for. When I bought it at the end of 2008, it was under $100. It has almost doubled in price. I'm not sure that I would pay $150 for it, but it was well worth the $89 I paid for it last year.
I used this camera extensively while snorking in the Caribbean on two different trips. It worked quite well both above the water and in the water. When shooting above the water, make sure you don't use the waterproof case - it can distort the photo. But the camera takes great photos without the case. I looked at many cameras before deciding on this one.

Pros -
-Housing is easy to use. Good and sturdy. No leakage during multiple uses. But be sure to keep the casing OPEN when storing.
-Camera floats while in housing, so you won't lose it if you drop it.
-Buttons are easy to learn for easy use under water.
-Good underwater pictures when water is clear and it is sunny, especially nearer the surface.
-Good pictures above the water when not using the housing. Quite surprising quality. Could be used for most pictures.
- Nice and small. Easy to carry.
- Video is pretty good too.

Cons -
- Flash is of no help underwater. If it's not sunny, you won't get good underwater pictures.
- Can get a quite a bit of blur when taking underwater pictures. But a lot of pictures come out very clear - still can't quite figure out why.
- No sound with video.

4 out of 5 stars excelent affordable underwater camara   June 26, 2009
P. McHugh (NW IN USA)
My son took this camara to the Florida Keys and used it all week long to take excelent pictures underwater. We did not want to send an expensive camara with a 14yr old. but hopped he would get some good photos. He did just that. It was wonderful. I have not down loaded the photos from the memory card yet but they were very good. Only thing that might be a negative was no zoom but for the price I can not complain. I would highly reccomend this camara for a beginner.
The delivery time and shipping was also execlent.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Camera For The Money   June 16, 2009

I purchased two of these cameras, one for myself and the other for my 11 year old son so we could take them with us on our dive trips. This camera is a great buy if all you are interested in doing is taking some nice snapshots and not looking to produce photographic works of art. Use an external flash if you want better pictures or be sure to only take pictures where there is plenty of light. The closer you are to your subject the better and always shoot upward slightly for best results.
